It was 32 C yesterday in OCTOBER.

But that doesn't compare to last summer.  The mild winter was a hint.  The worst heatwave and drought in the Midwest in a half-century.  At least six weeks of brutal heat, largely in the 37 to 40 C range--not including humidex.  I found that the 37-38 C days were the worst.  Once it got over 40, it became more of a dry sauna and actually sort of detoxifying.  I had a home spa day once when it was 43 C.  I alternated between sunbathing and cold showers.

It was 18C today. The last day of January in Lawrence, KS. I haven't adjusted yet: back home, it was -21 or so when we left ten days ago.

Tropical!

It's April 2nd, and the high today was 28C...and I'm in Ottawa. We lounged a while outside, had mojitos, walked around with all sorts of other heat-hazed people. I will get tired of summer, but a taste of it was delightful today.

Well...it's cold outside for the last fifty zillion days, but it's finally warming up. Amazing how warm -7 can feel sometimes, and how strongly it makes things smell outside.

ooooh, I guess the new blog didn't happen!

Well, there's a newer one.

At any rate, the weather has been too hot for my last 3 races. I guess anything above 10C is too hot. 5-10C feels great in a tank top and shorts. I can jog in much hotter weather, but not run.

It sure has been a while.
I had to laugh reading about that cold winter in 2003...not going to happen this year!
Now the love of my life and I are stuck below the Mason-Dixon line: stuck, as in literally melted and thus cemented to various surfaces (ex: me, the couch).

I exaggerate, actually. Today is nice. Yesterday was nice. The day before had a humidex of 37 or 38, and that was not nice, especially for October. hot weather makes me cranky.

Anyway, my purpose in reviving this moldy old thing is to write about running. I have improved some with training (actually running regularly works wonders!). My half-marathon best is now 1:47. New blog!

HOLY CRAP--This thing is still up, and I even remembered my name AND password--goodness me! Since I've last posted, I've been to Asia and the Middle East and have met the love of my life, and ran 3 half-marathons, all without training. Best time 2:03. Yeah, baby!

Well, talk about weather--I've run the gamut this year. Personal high: 54 C in Kuwait. Now I'm next to the mountains and the climate is definitely quick to change here.
